A lot of people want their home to be the best, to be special and unique to them. It can range from simply having some stand out accessories around and about to the downright crazy. Here are some of the craziest as well as a few you can implement in your own home.

A couple of university students at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo got down about the fact that they couldn’t often get to their nearby beach, so decided to bring the beach to them. Filling their room with sand, covering the walls in burlap sack and adding a few beach chairs, they managed to create a perfect beach environment, all in the comfort of their own home! It’s not a recommended way to get that beachy feel at home though; instead of getting sand in every nook and cranny, maybe try using some salvaged sea pieces such as dried seaweed and shells to create some unique nautical artwork like this.

An easy way to make your bedroom really stand out from all others, especially if you’re on a budget is to get creative with paint. It’s an inexpensive way to create something different but interesting – if you’re not quite ready to make the jump of having the whole room painted with a crazy design, use a bright colour or patterned wallpaper to cover a particular feature wall. If you’ve got a little bit more to spend, think about other features in your bedroom and creating them as focal points. Instead of having the normal built in wardrobe, go for one of these brightly coloured ones; not only will you open up a bit more space in the room, your eye will be drawn to them. Alternatively, change the layout of the room dramatically, for example, have the bed in the middle of the room as the standout piece rather than pushed to one side out of the way.

If you’re looking to really stand out and have plenty of imagination and cash, why not go for a themed bedroom? There are plenty of ideas out there such as Victoriana, characterised by opulent chandeliers, highly decorative bed frames and heavy draped curtains, or ultra-glamorous celebrity inspired bedrooms which include pieces such as poles, rotating beds and dramatic lighting.

Or if you’re not quite ready to have this all in your own home, but want to get the experience, there are plenty of weird and wonderful hotel bedrooms out there that you can stay at. Take for example the ICEHOTEL in Sweden; it’s not just icy themed, it’s made entirely out of ice and melts and is rebuilt every year.
