\Do you absolutely love your job? Many people do. However, often times, no matter how much you love your job, you will work with someone you totally less-than-love. Some co-workers can be totally toxic and working with them seems completely impossible. Trust me, I know! I once had to work with a co-worker I just wanted to smack some sense into. These people can make you want to quit your job or just drive you crazy to the point where you want to snap on them, but that is never any good. In fact, it could cost you your beloved job. Here are some strategies you can use to deal with that toxic and pesky co-worker.

Report the Problem

If you are being harassed by a co-worker, the best thing for you to do is report the problem to your boss. Never try to take things into your own hands because it could get you in trouble. Let your boss know who the co-worker is and give them as many details about the situation as possible. If you have someone who has witnessed the problem between you and your co-worker, ask them to back you up. This is always a great place to start.

Ignore the Toxic Co-Worker

One of the best things that you can do when you are being irritated by a co-worker is simply to ignore the person. It may sound easier said than done, but in the long run, it is a really effective way to get the person to get lost. If you show them that what they are saying is bothering you, then they will continue to try to bother you. If you ignore every effort they make to annoy you, you’re not adding fuel to their fire and they will get bored because they are not getting the reaction they want from you. Then, they will stop.

Confront the Person

If you are at your wits end with the toxic co-worker and you want to know what their problem actually is, confront them. By no means do you have to be rude. Be civil with the person and ask why they feel the need to bother you. Tell them if they continue to keep it up, you will report them again to someone higher up than your boss and ensure that the problem gets resolved. Whatever you do, do not make threats or get physical with this person because you may wind up being the one to get in trouble for it.

When you love your job and have to work with someone you cannot stand, it can make things complicated and unpleasant but there is always a way to resolve the problems. Use these mentioned strategies to deal with a toxic co-worker and make your work day easier and more enjoyable.
