Each year at Christmas, it seems like no matter where you go, you can always see someone ringing a bell for the Salvation Army, looking for a donation. People who are in the Christmas spirit usually donate if they have some spare change or dollar bills, but Christmas should not be the only time we donate to charity. The reason being is because the holiday season isn’t the only time that there are people in need. There are needy people in our world, going without and living in poverty, each and every day. Charities need money to support causes like the super typhoon in the Philippines or the internal crisis in Syria when disaster strikes and throughout the year. You can donate to Unicef here if you’d to show support straight away. Donating to charity is always a great thing to do and it can be good for you as a person, for a whole multitude of reasons.
You’re Helping Others
Here’s the thing. When you donate money to charity, no matter what charity it may be, you are helping those in need, and that’s always a great thing to do. When you have extra money, there is a good chance that you’ll wind up spending it on something that you don’t really need anyhow, like a coffee or maybe even a pack of cigarettes. Instead of wasting money, donate it to help someone that needs something far worse. That money that would have bought you a coffee will help to feed a person for a week, or maybe even a month.
It’s a Good Feeling
When you donate to those who are in need, you are really contributing to the greater good, whether you know it or not. Maybe you don’t see it directly, but someone, somewhere in the world, is benefitting by your generous donation. The feeling that comes with knowing you’re doing something great for someone who has nothing or may be struggling should be a great feeling and should make you feel amazing. There really is no better feeling than knowing you may be changing someone’s life for the better.
I have donated a lot of money to people and to charity in my life and I can honestly say that it is the best feeling to know that I am helping others. At the end of the day, I know the money went somewhere far better than what I would have bought with it. Sure, everyone seems to donate something during the holidays, but don’t just be that person. Be the person who donates all year round, because it will earn you some major brownie points someday when you’re at the Pearly Gates!
